Voluntary Medicare Success Story

Trilateral amputee rehabilitation

it was 18th october 2004, class 8th students had assembled outside Govt. Boys higher secondary school shariefabad HMT Srinagar. The principal commanded the students to appear for the math paper in the school compound. While the students were busy writing their answers, an 11KV electric line running overhead snapped and fell on the students. Three students were killed on the spot while 3 were maimed for life. Angry parents burned down the grid station. uptown areas remained without electricity for 6 days. The electricity was restored but the darkness this incident left in the life of Hussain never left. Hussain's both legs and one arm was amputated. Now to walk he directly puts his residual limbs into his shoes. The tragic incident left Hussain dejected and he quit studies, began working in the scrapyard.

One day while working there he heard about Voluntary Medicare Society's Prosthetic and orthotic unit. So, he visited VMS in Nov 2021, 18 years after the incident. He's assessed for this condition, as he's used to walking on residual limbs, so psychologically he's not ready to bear the extra burden of artificial limbs. He's shown various similar cases where beneficiaries of his age were able to move from one place to another without letting any bypasser get the idea that he's an amputee.

Moreover Hussain the incident had left a deep bruise in Hussains heart and mind and he's stopped to talk , laugh or share anything related to him , let alone the details of the incident.

After two months Hussain was trained on artificial limbs, now he's walking confidently using these limbs.
